As South Africans battle with current economic challenges, including price hikes on almost everything and continuing high unemployment numbers, the need for innovative strategies for consumers to save money has never been clearer. So here’s an out-of-the-box thought:
What have you heard about Vobi?
Vobi From Vox: Voice, Video and Text
Vobi is Vox’s mobile Voice Calling application that brings you some key differentiating features when compared to other phone apps you might know about.
Vobi allows users to make and receive calls from their mobile phones at reduced rates, using the Vox network. It also provides text messaging and video call functionality.
But what makes Vobi different, you may ask? And how could this help a monthly budget?
Read on for some good financial news.
Vobi Voice Calls
Using the Vobi app, you can make local calls at reduced rates across all platforms, to mobile phone numbers as well as landlines.
That’s right: your Vobi app lets you call any local number at significantly reduced rates – without the need for the person you’re calling to be in the same club.
Of course, you can always call Vobi to Vobi at low-to-no cost – but the really good news is being able to call Vobi to mobile, or Vobi to landline, at some of the lowest rates in the market.
You can also make international calls without needing to make special roaming arrangements via your service provider (remembering that international roaming costs can be very expensive).
In a nutshell, the Vobi app – which isn’t new, it’s been around since 2016, so it’s tried and tested – enables you to benefit from lower call rates across all networks and platforms, and gives you the ability to receive all home or office phone calls on your mobile phone, regardless of where you are in the world.
Long story short? You can call more, for less, with the Vobi app.
Vobi Texting and Video Calls
For both Vobi texting and video calls, the person on the other end of your chat also needs to have a Vobi number, in other words communicating Vobi to Vobi.
With all the other great Voice benefits Vobi offers, it’s time to spread the word!
How to Set Up Your Vobi Account
When it comes to choosing your monthly costs package, Vobi has two offerings:
- If you love to chat – or if not you, then maybe your family – you can choose Unlimited Calling for R171 per month, and save on call costs – both locally and internationally.
- Otherwise, you can choose Per Minute calling at R29 per month, which translates into a low flat rate of just R0,46c per minute to call all numbers in South Africa – remember, it doesn’t matter what platform.
Now that’s something to rate highly! Click here for more details.
Some Tech Talk
Expect the following when you sign up with Vobi:
- You will be able to make and receive high quality Voice and video calls over Wi-Fi, 3G, 4G and LTE on the Vox network.
- You will get your own Vobi number through your new SIP account (which stands for Session Initiation Protocol calling). This means that you will have a different number when you make Vobi calls via your existing mobile phone (so one mobile phone with two numbers on it).
- This SIP number will be an 087 number.
- If you prefer, you can request a geographically-located number, for example one that begins with 010 if you’re in Johannesburg – it’s your choice. Please note that there is an additional charge for this option.
- Alternatively, you have the option to move (‘port’) your existing number to Vox, which you can use on the Vobi app.
- Enjoy low call rates across all networks in South Africa, or call from wherever you are in the world without the use of high cost roaming charges.
- A note about RICA: This is the South African legislation that governs the interception or monitoring of paper-based and electronic communications. Its purpose is to protect the security and privacy of South Africans. So when you are setting up your account, you will have to submit some documentation to validate your ID.
With Vox, your Voice needs are covered, and the Vobi app provides benefits including reduced costs, availability across all platforms, and communications peace of mind when you’re travelling away from home – even internationally.
You could just call it happy hour – getting more bang for your Voice buck – all the time.
